Alan is an accomplished senior level business executive with an extensive background in healthcare strategic marketing, product development, sales, sales management, medical affairs and operations both in the U.S. and globally. He excels in the visualization, development, launch and market penetration of new innovative products, services, and businesses that are often first to market. His breadth of experience is evident in his work with senior management, Board and leadership teams with whom he has consistently demonstrated increased market share, sales, profits, and shareholder value.
As the leader of global Marketing and Medical Affairs for Given Imaging, he launched the company’s breakthrough PillCam video capsule endoscope and developed markets in more than 70 countries. This first of its kind, disruptive technology enabled diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases. His work was made more difficult in that the global market acceptance and scientific evidence had to be developed in parallel.
Alan crafted and executed strategic business plans, guided product development through R&D, and directed a global, matrixed management staff within marketing, R&D, QA, manufacturing, global sales, customer service, and clinical affairs. His work resulted in a 500% revenue growth within five (5) years and led to the sale of the company for $860,000,000 in 2014.
Previously, while serving as a Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Alan pioneered a new division for a hospital revenue-cycle and compliance consulting firm by launching a start-up Internet training business (SaaS) for health care professionals. His efforts brought about a 260% revenue growth in two years. The company was then sold to the Elsevier Publishing Company in 2003. Just prior to that success, he was a member of the executive team of a start-up telemedicine company that led to a successful exit in 1999.
Prior to these entrepreneurial experiences, Alan held leadership roles in corporate settings at companies such as Coloplast, Dornier Medical Systems (a Daimler-Benz company), Xerox Medical Systems, and Konica Medical Systems, spanning marketing, sales, and sales management roles in businesses involved with medical capital equipment, medical devices, medical imaging including radiology, disposables, and healthcare services.
He also served as general manager for a large durable medical equipment company with P&L accountability for sales and operations that employed more than 250 Teamsters Union employees and support staff.
Alan is a graduate of the University of Florida with an educational background in English and Aerospace Engineering.
